The ping timing thing is something the NSA might use. It lets you correlate activity on different sites. They'd have to track all the traffic in the world, which is something the NSA conceivably does. They won't share their intel with police, let alone some asshole lawyers who want to prosecute someone downloading a sitcom. And if they did, it's not legal proof.
If it ever did get used in the real world, VPNs would just randomly vary their ping times by a few milliseconds to screw it up. Or a user utility could do the same thing.

Any way you could add a feature to keep track of shows we are following?

@variety
Thank-you for your reply,
i use 6 ad-blocking and script blocking software they don't stop the links or pictures, but i am happy they have moved the section off the main page.

If you want i can send you links to at least 100 links to sites that cater to those needs.

i browse this clean site while my kids are awake, when they are not......well im only human lol!

The same thread you link points out the attacker now has to collect much more data to work out the average ping time of a randomised ping.

How is the attacker going to extract this data for a single user from a flood of pings of multiple users to average them? He'd need to filter and study them to guess which pings are from the same user. Even if he could, he'd never have more than a statistical correlation between any ping and any user. There is no way this would constitute legal proof. Probably good enough for NSA to send out a drone strike if you're an Al Qaeda terrorist getting your daily fix of Real Housewives of Riyadh.

Anyway, even if my limited knowledge can't come up with a fix in the 2 minutes I've devoted to this, I'm sure there is a solution. A more random random, maybe, varying the amplitude of the random pauses (at random periods).

But these highly theoretical attacks are all quite irrelevant in the real world.

Probably 99% of torrenters aren't cloaking at all. They're bare ass naked, exposing their real IPs to anyone who cars to connect to the torrent. And they aren't getting rounded up en masse and sent to the gulags. Just a handful of people have ever been prosecuted and less than that jailed, mostly people who were actually making a business out of warez. Out of hundreds of millions doing it all day every day.

In the city I live in, there has been one and only one one celebrated case in the last 10 years, some idiot who seeded a movie and boasted about it on a forum.

@TomMix
I believe you are directing that question at me.
As i said that method is still theory and yes there are already counters in theory, but i guess this is my fault it has gone somewhat off-topic.
My original post talks about torrents being a extremely risky venture, they ARE tracked and data captured, http://www.ibtimes.com/how-people-are-caught-illegally-downloading-music-movie-torrents-783071
People sued in 2011, https://torrentfreak.com/200000-bittorrent-users-sued-in-the-united-states-110808/
I agree with you that few have had judgements against them (estimated in the 1000's in all of the world)
Unfortunately the storage of this data means that you can be sued down the track if the copyright holder gets more success in the courts or laws change, just not worth the risk in my opinion.

Hi
I don't mind the adult section but I don't like to see it as a whole banner section across the face of my screen. I have kids that would see it. I now have to block them from this site and have to tell them why. Thanks a lot.

are you going to offer uploaded.net links on the adult site. I registered for uploaded when you asked us to do so. I cannot afford to support another hoster again.

Rod Sir
Netflix may be a cheap site. We run our home on set income and have to stick to it. Who knows if the Ac or Car quits on us. Also any medical problems come up none would be cheap. That's why we keep a fund in the bank for it. We just can't spend money if we don't have to. Trust me my kids have what they need. Each have top of the line laptops for school and things thy need for school we get. They know bootleg is not right, but they don't it I do. They are on my laptop and see my page that is loaded up and see the movies across the top. I did not like that. So Mr Rod sir you have a nice life this is over for me I will say no more. I am sure you will have a family one day and will understand what I am saying about kids seeing what they saw it should only be o an adult site, I'm glad they have changed things. Goodbye Rod Sir

@bearman, the banner is temporary. we need to promote the new site and need your support. also, most of adult contents moved to new website so we think the site is safer for families now.
