I don't watch movies, or even TV shows, on my PC, but a TV lugged into a media player.
It's not "old fashioned" to want a format that's compatible with your quire new media player. If there is absolutely no other format available, I will get x265 and convert it to x264.

I don't think it makes sense to discard all the other formats that we've all grown used to. For example .XviD avi still exists even though the "new standard" has been .x264 mkv for about 6 years now. (the scene groups are releasing in x264 only so any x265 has to be converted by a group such as RMTeam).

Like TomMix I watch on my big screen TV using a media player I bought for $250.00 about 2 years ago. I wouldn't be happy if I had to buy an newer player for $250.00 just to play x265 if that became the only format available. (I do have a cheap android player that does play x265 but I don't like how the video looks played on my TV so I'd want to stick with a media player I like.)

I've converted some Web-DL RMTeam .x265 releases that weren't done in .x264 and it's fairly quick and easy, but I might not want to convert 20~25 downloads every week!

For now I think the conversation is moot. Both x264 and x265 releases are available and not going anywhere (hopefully).
