Thank you for your suggestions and information - it will be very helpful.

I'm aware that any reencodes will further degrade image quality - it has always been so, since the days of JPG and why all my image scanning is done in TIFF, PSD or PNG.

When I refer to subs I definitely DO NOT mean hard coded - it's one of the reasons that I prefer the MKV (or Apple's M4V) containers - both support integral soft subs that do not carry the need for an external SRT or SUB/IDX files. In such cases my goal is always to just remux the file and fold in the SRT rather than recompress.

Qualitatively I have a tier system - typical shows like CSI and NCIS and other police shows, and most sit-coms and the like don't really warrant anything over 720p - however, when there is HD source, I prefer most of my SF in 1080.

I'm very much looking forward to exploring the tools you've recommended - thank you again for taking the time to answer my questions.

Hi! I would be FOREVER GRATEFUL for s01 e03 ("brain" of "Important Things With Demetri Martin"!!! my file is broken. Archives here say it was here 12 years ago. It's a Comedy Central show. HElP? I don't know if this could help anyone, but I have the whole 2 seasons (save said episode). I REALLY need this... THANKS SO MUCH if someone can help!

Thanks for all the links, again. I might have not been clear with the "smaller" comment: it was about Dollhouse, which ended up being 29.8Gb for ONE season! I'd really like to find smaller ones, that is all. I usually go for the size of, as you mention, Homecoming. Hope this clarifies. And thanks for being for helpful.
