@Oscar2
Spending one's life resisting inhuman occupation and fighting brutal oppression of a whole nation to the last breath isn't laughable but honorable and respectable.

@twinkletoes Hi..i can not find them anywhere on the internet. This is the first time something like this is happening with Hallmark mystery movies.
The Jane Mysteries: Too Much to Lose
Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Death at the Diner
Please inform here if by any chance you find them somewhere.

@MeH

Glad to have you back! Hope we can talk film at some point (I see World Affairs weigh hard on you 0I avoid speaking politics publicly but I feel it too-)

From research, I can tell you this:

We treat homosexual orientation (attraction to same sex) and behavior as 2 separate things: e.g. never having been turned on by a woman (using male examples because there is more info on them) vs prison sex. For the former, testing on minors being non-ethical, you can't tell how early, but attraction to what sex is easily testable on adults (and the apparatus doesn't lie). We can definitely assert that some people are attracted only to their own sex exclusively, but in front of the accomplished fast. (Unfortunately, the same thing was involved (to no avail and with traumatic side-effects) in so-called "reeducation training" i.e. "chase the gay away" stunts (combined with electric shocks etc.) that did nothing good but gave weight to the idea that orientation is, indeed, innate. Given the treatment of gays across time, who would CHOOSE it? (Again, not taking about the behavior, bases on circumstances... he;; today in school we tell kids to "try it!!!) but the deep-seated orientation).

There is much scientific literature starting with the Aids crisis (when many gave their bodies to science) and yes, a certain structure in the brain involved in the sex drive happens to be different in the brains of gay vs hetero males (one such researchers, at the top of my head, Dr. Montagnier, France). Positions are being argued as to the "why". There are litigating circumstances there too: cadaver work only points the way but is diddled with complications, having no baseline (healthy, younger) info to compare with. But the numbers, and comparisons around the world shown that this brain difference to be stable across.

You say "genetic" I'll stop you there because when we say genetic, we mean DNA, when what I think you mean to say is the more appropriate "biologically determined". Both do mean "born that way, not chosen", but beware of the word "genetic", it's an easy mistake to make, I sometimes catch myself saying it! Gays don't "pass along" "gay DNA" that we know of... and the closest we'd have test, anyway, would be gay sperm donors' offspring. Then again, there are no "hetero genes", it's just de de facto condition, as the female body is the de facto form. So if not genetic, but innate, then what?

There are strong biological theories involving pre-natal conditions (levels of triggering hormones and others at different developmental stages) in utero, where the body is feminized/masculinized, and where the brain difference seen but unexplained in gay men men likely emerges. Again,complex to explore, but promising.

All I know is this: it is not nearly as important to know why there are gay people as it is to cure cancer, so not holding my breath. But we KNOW there ARE gay people, and the problem is not "why" but how the majority treats them. Lately, the "LG" in "LGBTQ+ is seeing drawbacks from "rest of alphabet" acting out like children and not respecting the work that went in acquiring basic equality rights. The loud and colorful are disrespectful of their own barrier breakers and make it very difficult for all or either side. They should not speak for all, and we should not see them as representative. I am not making the apology of anything else but sexual orientation being deep-seated here and not wanting to deal with woke debate,

The literature is there, if you're willing to dig. My field is wider and this is not my area so without searching a lot myself, I can't save you time, save to say Pay mind to scientific articles (those from scientific journals, Medscape and such, that start with an "abstract" described the methods and end with "conclusions";) over other sources, so not to end with pseudo-science. Not that other sources can't be good, but they CAN be WRONG, as they are not peer reviewed and, meant for the public, often come with an agenda (to curb opinion either way). Good cientific research will tell you it went wrong, if it did,

If anything: I am just glad you are around and hope we can talk! I gotta run- have a good rest of day! -W

Had to rush and leave before editing down/for clarity/ for typos. Sorry if it made for hard reading, but I think the gist of it passes.
But there is one thing that stands out because out of its context... When I say "in schools, they now say to try it!" it's because my friend works in education and informed me that as a fact, in sex ed, (before high school), they DO tell kids to try sex with one's own gender FIRST. Horrified, I asked if it was to counter teen pregnancies, but apparently not. And to follow my logic of innate orientation, this would be confusing to the vast majority: why "pitch" this behavior? What's wrong with just teaching biology, prevention and consent? -Anyways, this gives context to a sentence that was out of place- Have a good night : )

Good discussion.
As I said I think it's mostly a matter of genetics and not psychology. And don't forget that genetics is a branch of biology. By 'genetic' I mean a situation like hemophilia. I believe a certain combination of parents' genes causes their offspring to become homosexual.
Just like Children of a haemophiliac male won't necessarily be born with hemophilia (in fact it happens in rare cases), babies created by sperms of gay sperm donors won't necessarily be homosexual. The combination of genes is important here. All sorts of things can happen when genes are combined.
With the huge increase in computing power and advances in data science and genomics, I believe if they study enough number of "parents" of homosexual people, they can find the conditions where offspring can be homosexual, but I really doubt they're going to carry out such research considering the policies of these governments.

While a masterpiece of military-intelligence operation, October 7 attack (Operation Al-Aqsa Flood) was a burst of wrath caused by 8 decades of agony of Palestinians at the hands of Zionist occupiers. It was a desperate attempt, a grave cry to tell the world that Palestinians still exist while living under grim conditions forced on them by inhuman Zionist occupation. It was a wake-up call to coward Arab dictatorships that were betraying Palestinians and burying Palestinian cause by normalizing ties with Zionist regime through Abraham Accords brokered by Jared Kusher, son-in-law of "Israel's best friend" Donald Trump.

The cycle of violence didn't start on 7 October 2023. It started more than 76 years ago while Zionist invaders killed Palestinians, set their homes and villages on fire and expelled hundreds of thousands of Palestinians and occupied their houses and lands. Needless to mention that many allegations made by Israelis including beheading of babies, torture and rape were nothing but lies. It's important to note that even those released captives held in Gaza for weeks weren't tortured or raped.
If they (Zionists and their backers and enablers) think they can steal other people's lands, besiege them, put them under unbearable conditions and treat them like subhumans and pretend like nothing has happened while having fun! (including having a concert near the biggest open-air prison in the world), they're dead wrong. There will be no lasting peace until Palestinians have their own country, dignity and sovereignty.

There are only two possible, acceptable solutions to this decades-long conflict: 1. Establishing a united, secular democracy in which all Muslims, Christians and Jewish, Arabs and Jews live together equally in peace (with no spying and killing machines like Mossad and Shin Bet and of course no secret nuclear weapons). 2. Establishing two sovereign states of Palestine and Israel according to 1967 UN Resolution 242.
However, extremist Zionists have another plan. They want to eliminate all the remaining Palestinians from Gaza and West Bank and steal all the lands of Palestinians for a Zionist Israel. The ongoing genocide of Palestinians in Gaza is a part of that plan.

"... because the hostages who are tortured or raped will NEVER be released ..."
Are you kidding me?! This shows that you're totally mistaken on this matter. The whole point of taking captives is to pressure Zionist regime to accept a ceasefire and not to torture or rape some settlers. You helplessly trying to defend decades of inhuman Zionist occupation of Palestine is just sorrowful.

I totally see what you mean, but we are still in hypotheticals. I do believe orientation to be innate, but what you speak of can only proven going forward- as no set of genes have YET been identified- still, no one can say that there AREN'T either. It'd be a very elaborate task. Sample sizes would have to be huge, and undertaken across different world populations to make results valid and reliable. So, LONG (and expensive), which is why I'm saying I'm not holding my breath, and not because I don't think it can't be done. Regards, -W

That post was to someone who firmly believes it IS genetic. I do NOT. I made the difference between genetic (DNA) and other biological factors, Gave a brief history of what research yielded or was looking at to date (not going to retype it).
The "of yet", having worked in research a long time, it is the the facto position towards anything until disproven. I did not condone such an undertaking (finding "gay genes" at any point, and does not represent an opinion about it.

Ho la la! searching for flees everywhere...

@Oscar, my area of study is (should say "was" since I'm more "in the field" and out of lab these past few years) is Neuroscience, not linguistics and semantics!
I tested drugs for novel uses or potential repercussions (e.g. methylphenidate aka ritalin in the young for potential cocaine addiction at adult age) using the animal model. I even tested "learned Monogamy"!. My latest work was with human subjects, in Addiction Psychiatry.

Guess what? If you want buddies, a life outside Academia, you have to drop the serious tone a notch, which is why, look for flees, you'll find some (but WHY!!!) it has been my bread an butter (and passion!) long enough that need a break, "Not proven as of yet" just means no one as dis/proven a given hypothesis and does not imperatively speak speak of future endeavors (someone MIGHT try something, or not, and if anything was tried, it could pursued further or be abandoned) but it's just of the state of affairs AT THIS POINT on any given subject.

Lastly: ANY research TRIAL DOES starts WITH AN EXPECTATION: the hypothesis that has to be emitted to be dis/proven. ("Learnt Monogamy" for instance is a wide conceot, before which many trial hypotheses came). And a test hypothesis has to be very narrow and precise: and the further along, even narrower, as "vague" questions like "is homosexuality passed down genetically" are NOT testable in themselves. They must be broken into testable items, like statements, that end with a yes/no answer withing a preset statistical parameter, usually <.05 or <.01. Genetics is outside my purview, but I guess a test hypothesis COULD (not fast) sound something like "Gene X will present in genitors of homosexual progeny" then Y/N. If "yes", then next phase "The expression of gene X will vary between the genitors of homosexual vs heterosexual offspring", Y/N and so on. Of course, tons of definitions must follow in the methodology e.g. who do we call "homosexual" so everyone can universally use the same definition (inclusions and exclusions), to replicate. And so one with any term that may be interpreted differently by different researchers. The ONE THING: it HAS to start with a statement that can be disproven.

Oscar-Beastie-Xanthmonster-CInque... clearly neither has an academic background nor does he ever accept even to consider anything others lay out to him, however well considered, based on arguments and studies, however polite or funny or boiled down to "popular science" that might have been done. His "truth" consist of rarely anything more than cherrypicked parts of WikiPedia pages and the repeating of strong beliefs and phrases.

Oscar-Beastie-Xanthmonster-CInque... has let himself being dragged in over his head into info warrior / truther mode, now juggling several accounts (but unable to stick to the right tone of each one), impersonating others by using small changes to their account name and laying out his fantasies as if his personal epiphanies were more than illusions of grandeur. All of that is accompanied by insults, void allegations, swear words and hyperbolic threats (he once even stated to command 'Anonymous' to come after me as well as to dox me - I'm still waiting for either of that to happen ;). And as the last weeks have hinted at, his increasingly paranoid posts are making him more and more 'friends', all the while he strongly seems to believe to be the 'good soul' and inevitable stackpole of this forum.

You might try to talk some sense into a poor horror clown of that dimension, but as you start to recognize yourselves: "searching for flees everywhere".

What fascinates me in a way is the obsession of homophobes and the like with the sexuality of others and the rationalizations of that, like humanity dying out (Really? Since when? Why not consider the climate?), HIM The One And Only (besides a few thousand other gods primates came and still come up with), etc., the repetition of boilerplate phrases like "thrust down the throat" for mere further existance of gay media, nothing seems to be too farfetched in order to rationalize the urgent drive to peep and rule under the bed sheets of complete strangers. One could probably call that drive in itself a 'perversion', in the good old 19th century sense of the term.

@Oscar-Beastie-Xanthmonster-CInque...

Still roaming my arsenal? I'm constantly amused about your delusions and homophobic twistings and how you make a lot of friends. I'd wish you truly added some daily.

So please keep it flowing. I'll be back again in a few weeks, so please don't disappoint me.

Dropping the tone a notch is what one does when not with peers, be it a cafe (or here). (Actually it's best to not even discuss work altogether for a social life! Academia is stuffy. In any case, (to close a the subject), "expectation" is another word for the question being posited, not a "wish" as laymen hear it. The resulting "Y/N" is OF COURSE what defines the experiment (any other observations matter but go in the "discussion" section of the paper).
If my Thesis Statement is " Adult (1.5 yo*) rats that were exposed methylphenidate when young (2-4 mo*) will demonstrate more responses in a lever-press task for cocaine more often than cocaine-naive rats", I REALLY don't want a YES (because of implications in the real world, i.e. that kids on Ritalin are at more risk for cocaine addiction)! But since disproving is the method, then the statement posited in the beginning is positive. (* this info usually explained in the methodology section, but I since I won't go that far...also those ages are from memory alone)
